Raiders Golf Finishes MCCAA Runner-Up; Softball Clinches Conference Title

Apr. 27, 2026, GRAND RAPIDS, MI – It was a championship-caliber start to the week for Grand Rapids Community College athletics, as the Raider golf team earned a runner-up finish at the MCCAA Championship while the softball program officially clinched the conference title.

The Raider golf team continued its strong postseason push with a second-place finish at the MCCAA Championship on Monday at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana. Originally scheduled as a 36-hole event, the tournament was shortened to just one round due to heavy rain moving into the area.

Competing against 11 full teams and a field of 63 golfers, GRCC posted a team score of 318 (+30), finishing just four strokes behind champion Mott Community College. Henry Ford's Billy Sennett claimed medalist honors with a 74 (+2).

Leading the way for the Raiders was Trevor Hobbs, who fired a 77 (+5) to finish tied for fourth overall. His performance earned him All-MCCAA honors. Lucas VanMaanen and MCCAA Player of the Year Carson Osborn each carded rounds of 79 (+7), finishing tied for 12th place.

Brody Cook added an 83 (+11) to place 28th, while Theo Oddy and Landon Simpson each shot 84 (+12), finishing tied for 35th.

The strong finish comes just days after GRCC secured a runner-up finish in the conference standings, further solidifying the team's consistency heading into postseason play. The Raiders will now turn their attention to the NJCAA Region XII Championship, set for May 4-5 at Bedford Valley Golf Course.

On the softball diamond, the Raiders reached another milestone, clinching their seventh conference championship and third in the past four seasons. GRCC enters the final stretch of the regular season with a 34-8 overall record and a dominant 19-2 mark in conference play.

With four games remaining, the Raiders have secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming regional tournament. They will receive a first-round bye and are scheduled to open postseason play next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of the West No. 3 seed versus East No. 2 seed matchup.

Adding to the week's success, the GRCC baseball team (22-12, 18-3) also recently clinched its fourth consecutive conference championship following a weekend sweep of Alpena. The Raiders - who have won nine straight games - will open regional play at home on May 7 in a best-of-three series.
