Apr. 20, 2026, TWIN LAKE, MI – Grand Rapids Community College men's golf delivered a breakthrough performance Monday, capturing first place at the Muskegon CC Spring Invitational at Stonegate Golf Club. The victory marks the first for first-year head coach Chris Sobieck and comes in the team's 10th tournament of the season.

GRCC topped a 10-team field of 60 golfers with a team score of 314 (+26), finishing five strokes ahead of conference leader Marian University–Ancilla. After placing second in each of the first three conference events this spring, the Raiders put together a complete performance to climb within striking distance of the conference title. With one event remaining—the Montcalm CC Invitational on April 24—GRCC now sits just four strokes behind Marian in the overall conference standings.

The Raiders were fueled by a standout showing at the top of the leaderboard, as teammates Brody Cook and Carson Osborn shared medalist honors with rounds of 74.

Lucas VanMaanen added to the strong team effort, shooting a 78 to tie for ninth, while Trevor Hobbs carded an 80 to finish tied for 14th. Theo Oddy placed tied for 22nd with an 82, and Landon Simpson rounded out the lineup with an 87 (tied for 40th).

The win continues a strong stretch for GRCC, which also saw impressive individual performances at Sunday's event hosted by Marian University–Ancilla. VanMaanen fired a 76 to tie for second, while Osborn followed with a 77 to tie for fourth.

With momentum building at the right time, the Raiders now turn their focus to the final conference event, where a championship remains well within reach.
