FINAL RESULTS
Oct. 21, 2025, NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 18 ranked Grand Rapids Community College men's golf team capped off an impressive fall season with its best finish of the year, placing second out of 11 teams at the Saints Classic, hosted by Holy Cross College at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana.
After sitting in second place following Monday's opening round, GRCC held strong on Tuesday, shooting matching team scores of 312 (+28) in both rounds to finish just two strokes behind Saint Xavier University for the team title.
The Raiders built a 10-stroke lead at one point in the final round, but Saint Xavier's late surge was enough to narrowly edge GRCC by the slimmest of margins.
Despite the near miss, the Raiders dominated several statistical categories — leading the field in birdies (17), pars (94), and team scoring average on both par 3s and par 4s. All six GRCC golfers placed inside the top-15 of the 58-player field, a testament to the team's depth and consistency.
Freshman Hank Livingston paced the Raiders, tying for third place individually with a +12 (79-75). Freshman Lucas VanMaanen finished 6th (+13, 77-78) and led the team with five birdies. Hezekiah Nobel placed 10th (+15, 77-80), while Trevor Hobbs tied for 11th (+16, 80-78). Zac Vaandrager finished 13th (+17, 80-79), and Carson Osborn rounded out the group in a tie for 14th (+18, 79-81).
"This was almost a perfect ending to the fall season," said first-year head coach Chris Sobieck. "The guys have worked so hard and are improving every time we tee it up. Having a win would have helped validate their improvement even more, but I'm proud of how they competed. We played a very difficult schedule — almost entirely against four-year schools — and the guys have gained a tremendous amount of experience. I'm looking forward to our offseason workouts and preparing for a successful spring season."
The runner-up finish concludes a strong fall campaign for the Raiders, who consistently held their own against four-year programs and improved with each event under Coach Sobieck's leadership. GRCC will now turn its attention to winter training and the spring championship season.
