Sept. 23, 2025, SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Grand Rapids Community College's men's golf team battled against a field of mostly four-year universities in the Battle of Blackthorn, finishing in fourth place out of seven teams after two rounds on Monday and Tuesday.
The Raiders posted a 302 in Monday's opening round, highlighted by sophomore Trevor Hobbs' impressive 71, which had GRCC sitting in fourth place heading into the final day. GRCC followed with a 306 on Tuesday, finishing with a team total of 608.
Taylor University captured the team title with a 576, followed by Bethel University (595), Spring Arbor University (596), and GRCC (608). Rounding out the field were Holy Cross (IN) (614), the University of St. Francis (620), and Huntington University (621).
Freshman Carson Osborn led the way for GRCC, carding rounds of 75 and 74 for a 149 total, tying for 11th overall. His week was highlighted by two eagles and two birdies. Hobbs tied for 13th at 150 (71-79), collecting three birdies across the two rounds.
Freshman Hank Livingston, recently named the conference Golfer of the Week, tied for 21st with a 155 (80-75) and added a birdie to his scorecard. Fellow freshman Lucas VanMaanen tied for 23rd at 156 (77-79) with three birdies, while Hezekiah Nobel was close behind in 25th at 157 (79-78) with four birdies. Freshman Theo Oddy rounded out the Raiders' lineup, finishing 39th with a 163 (80-83), including three birdies.
As a team, GRCC recorded two eagles and 16 birdies during the tournament.
The Raiders will return to action on Oct. 3 at the Wayne County Invitational in Taylor, Mich.
