Oct. 31, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A new season brings fresh faces and big expectations for the Grand Rapids Community College women's basketball team, which tips off its 2025-26 campaign this weekend at the BC Pizza Petoskey Timberwolves Tip-Off Tournament.
Under the direction of Head Coach Dave Glazier, now in his 10th season, the Raiders return a small but experienced core while welcoming an influx of new talent — a combination that has the program energized for the months ahead.
GRCC finished 10-13 overall and 8-6 in the MCCAA Western Conference last year, and Glazier believes the 2025-26 group has the balance and depth to take another step forward.
Experienced Core Returns
The Raiders bring back three key contributors, led by All-Conference guard Tianna Daye (East Kentwood HS), who started every game last season and averaged 13.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest. Daye's quickness and leadership will again anchor the Raider offense.
Joining her are Averi Peot (Sparta HS), a 5-9 forward known for her all-around game — she totaled 149 points, 123 rebounds, 44 assists, and 52 steals last year — and Ta'tyana Hardiman (Wyoming HS), a strong defender and rebounder who played in all 23 games.
"Our returners have really embraced leadership roles," Glazier said. "They know what conference play demands and have helped set the tone for our younger players."
Talented Group of Newcomers
GRCC's roster features six freshmen eager to make their mark. Gracie Flynn (East Grand Rapids HS) and Lydia Schilthroat (Thornapple-Kellogg HS) bring energy and shooting to the backcourt, while Trinity Starling (East Kentwood HS) and Poet Scheuneman (Cedar Springs HS) add length and athleticism in the frontcourt. Alison Rockburn (Belding HS) and Lillian Wollen (Comstock Park HS) round out a versatile first-year group that gives the Raiders depth across all positions.
Impact Transfers Strengthen the Lineup
Glazier also brought in five transfers with college experience — a group that could make an immediate impact. Sophia Wozniak (Schoolcraft College / East Kentwood HS) returns to MCCAA action after a strong freshman season, joined by Harmonie Belton (Alma College / East Kentwood HS) and Ka'Shari Babb (Aquinas College / Godwin Heights HS), both quick, defensive-minded guards. Emma Picarazzi (Aquinas College / Catholic Central HS) and Avery DePagter (Aquinas College / Byron Center HS) give the Raiders added size, strength, and scoring versatility.
"Our depth and experience are the best they've been in a while," Glazier said. "We've got players who can defend, shoot, and push the pace — that's the kind of team we want to be."
A Challenging Schedule Ahead
The 28-game slate features 14 MCCAA Western Conference matchups, beginning Jan. 10 at Kellogg Community College. Before then, GRCC will test itself in four tournaments, including:
- BC Pizza Petoskey Timberwolves Tip-Off Tournament (Nov. 1–2)
- Lake Land College Tournament (Nov. 7–8)
- Montcalm County Shoot Out (Nov. 29–30)
- David Selmon Classic, hosted by GRCC (Dec. 12–13)
The early schedule will provide valuable experience for a team blending veterans and newcomers.
"The first few weeks will tell us a lot about who we are," Glazier said. "If we defend and play unselfish basketball, we'll be in position to compete with anyone."
