Dec. 3, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College women's basketball team delivered another defensive-minded victory Wednesday night, defeating rival Muskegon Community College 63-57 at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. With the win, the Raiders improved to 7-3, while the Jayhawks dropped to 2-3.
Despite an uncharacteristic shooting night from GRCC's leading scorer Tianna Daye, who finished just 3-of-17 from the field, the sophomore guard stepped up when it mattered most. With the game tied at 55 and under a minute remaining, Daye calmly sank six consecutive free throws, giving GRCC the lead for good and sealing a clutch performance at the line.
The Raiders came out sharp, jumping ahead 16-9 after the first quarter and extending their lead to 12 early in the second. Muskegon responded with a surge of their own, trimming the deficit to 30-27 at halftime.
Muskegon grabbed its first lead of the night, 40-39, with 3:24 to go in the third quarter, but GRCC answered immediately. The Raiders closed the period on a 7-0 run, regaining control and entering the fourth up 46-40.
GRCC pushed the margin back to nine at 52-43, only to see Muskegon storm back with a 10-0 run to take the lead. Freshman Avery DePagter swung momentum back in the Raiders' favor just 30 seconds later, drilling a pivotal three-pointer to make it 55-53. After Muskegon tied the game again with 1:19 left, Daye's perfect trip after perfect trip to the free-throw line shut the door. Harmonie Belton added two more free throws with 10 seconds to go to officially put the game out of reach.
GRCC was outstanding at the stripe all night, finishing 12-of-13 (92%), and once again relied on stifling defense—collecting 18 steals and 7 blocks.
