Dec. 6, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College basketball programs delivered a dominant sweep at home on Saturday, defeating North Central Michigan College for the second time this season — this time in front of the home crowd at the Ford Fieldhouse. The women's team rolled to an 83-40 victory, while the men secured an impressive 80-67 win.
WOMEN: Raiders Roll 83-40, Improve to 8-3
The GRCC women's basketball team put together one of its most complete performances of the year, cruising to an 83-40 victory and improving to 8-3 overall.
In a true team effort, all 14 Raiders played at least nine minutes, scored at least two points, and grabbed at least one rebound.
GRCC's defense — which entered the night ranked 5th in the MCCAA in steals — continued its disruptive play, recording 22 steals and forcing 33 Timberwolf turnovers, while committing just 11 turnovers themselves, tying a season low.
Freshman Trinity Starling came off the bench to lead the team with a career-high 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-4 FT) and a career-high 8 rebounds.
Other key contributors included:
- Averi Peot: 10 points, 4 steals
- Harmonie Belton: 4 steals
- Ta'Tyana Hardiman: Team-high 9 rebounds, including 5 offensive boards
The Raiders now turn their attention to hosting the Dave Selmon Classic this Friday and Saturday. They open tournament play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Oakton Community College.
MEN: GRCC Controls 80-67 Win, Moves to 8-2
The men's team continued its strong start to the season, defeating North Central 80-67 to improve to 8-2.
GRCC controlled the pace from the opening tip, leading nearly the entire game and pushing the margin to as many as 20 points.
The Raiders' pressure defense was the story again, producing 18 steals and turning those into 24 fastbreak points, compared to just 4 for the Timberwolves. GRCC also dominated the paint with a 62-36 advantage inside.
Last week's MCCAA Player of the Week, EJ Bowman, delivered another standout performance with 20 points (8-16 FG), 7 assists and 3 steals.
Supporting efforts came from:
- Nate Keil: 18 points (7-11 FG), team-high 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 steals
- Tyran Thomas: 11 points, 4 rebounds
- Zeek Jackson: 10 points, 3 steals
The men also return to action this weekend in the Dave Selmon Classic, taking on Oakton on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before closing the event on Saturday against 10th-ranked South Suburban College.
