Grand Rapids, MICH – Muskegon Community College's 18
th ranked women's basketball team was more than GRCC's women could handle last night as the Jayhawks breezed by the Raiders 69-49 to improve to 9-1 in MCCAA play and first in the West.
Tierra Williams led the Jayhawks in scoring with 15 points shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 5-of-8 from the line. She added 7 rebounds along with 4 steals. Elysia Mattos led her team in assist with 6 while adding 12 points. Williams and Iyana Brown each finished the game with four steals.
As a team the Jayhawks shot 37% from the field, 27% from behind the arc and 73% from the line. Muskegon finished with 43 rebounds, 15 steals and 9 turnovers.
The Raiders were led by
Quaonna Draper in scoring with 11 points.
Delanie King finished with 10 shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-4 for three.
Makayla Beld finished the game with three blocks and led the Raiders in rebounds with 7. Every player on the floor finished with at least one board.
GRCC shot 32% from the field, 17% for three and 64% from the line. GRCC recorded 41 rebounds and just three steals against Muskegon while allowing 19 turnovers.
With the loss the Raiders hold 7
th place in the West with a 3-7 conference record having lost three-straight games. GRCC is a half of a game behind 6
th place Jackson College and a game ahead of 8
th place Glen Oaks.
GRCC visits 10-10, 4-5 Lansing Community College on Saturday, February 10th for a 1PM game.
