Ancilla edges out women's basketball 72-68

Box Score Grand Rapids, MICH – Ancilla College's was too much for GRCC's women's basketball team last night as the Chargers visited the Raiders leaving with a 72-68 win improving to 19-5 overall and 9-4 in MCCAA play.

The Chargers shot 32% from the field and just 23% from behind the arc but managed to force 24 Raider turnovers—including 13 steals—to edge out Grand Rapids.  Ancilla grabbed 52 rebounds to GRCC's 38 and out performed the Raiders from the line shooting 80% to GRCC's 68%.

Brynda Krueger, LaRae Roscoe and Camryn Kopka each finished the night with double digit scoring totals.  Krueger added 12 rebounds to her 11 points for the Charger's lone double-double.

Grand Rapids was led by sophomore Makayla Beld with a 16 point, 11 rebound double-double.  Beld recorded 8 blocks with her team adding 4 others to bring the Raiders total to 12 for the game.  Quaonna Draper led the team in scoring with 18 points while adding 9 rebounds. 

Hallee Breimayer scored 16 points with 1 block, 1 assist and 1 steal. 

With the loss GRCC is now 12-12 overall with a 5-9 record in the West and 7th in the conference standings.  The Raiders have earned a berth into the NJCAA District G Tournament starting March 6th, 2018.

The Raiders have just two games remaining in their conference schedule before competing in District G play where they will face the top and bottom of the west in Kellogg and Mid-Michigan Community Colleges. 
GRCC visits a struggling Kellogg Community College team this Saturday before hosting NJCAA DII's #20 Mid-Michigan next Wednesday.  Kellogg is winless in MCCAA play this season while Mid-Michigan's Lakers have just two losses on their record with just one in Western Conference play.

#20 Mid-Michigan and #19 Muskegon Community Colleges rest atop the MCCAA West's standings at 12-1 in conference play.  Ancilla and Lake Michigan are tied for 3rd in the West at 9-4.  Jackson and Lake Michigan are tied for 5th at 6-8.  Grand Rapids is alone in 7th place with Glen Oaks and Kellogg at the bottom of the West at 1-12 and 0-13, respectively.
