Grand Rapids, Mich. - February 21st at 5:30 pm will feature
Sophomore Night for the women's team as they face off against Ancilla College. GRCC plans to honor and recognize the six current sophomore players that represent the Raiders. GRCC will recognize
Claire Flewelling,
Quaonna Draper,
Josie Manion,
Delanie King,
Makayla Beld, and
Emily Pendred. These six sophomores have shown excellence throughout the season and have represented the Raiders well on and off the court.
The women currently are tied with Jackson College for 6th place in the Western Conference. With Glen Oaks losing Monday night, the Raiders have secured a spot in this year's NJCAA District Tournament and can earn as high as 5 seed depending on the outcome of their next three games. Due to the women's game being canceled against Kalamazoo Valley Community College on February 26th, this will be the final chance to come and support your sophomores on their home floor this year.
GRCC Men's basketball looks for a big win at home as they hope to defeat the number one team in the nation, Ancilla College. The men will play the Chargers at home on February 21st at 7:30 pm inside the Ford Fieldhouse. The Chargers come into this game with a (24-1) overall record and a perfect (14-0) conference record. Last season, the GRCC men went finished 0-2 in the regular season against Ancilla which included a tough overtime loss, but upset the Chargers in the District Championship. Earlier this year, the Chargers took care of the Raiders in Plymouth, Indiana by the score of 94-79. In that game, the Sophomore trio of Davison, McIntosh and Pangborn combined for 65 points while the rest of the team scored just 14 points.
The Raiders will look to have a strong effort from every player on the team, in order to defeat this tough Chargers team.
Curtis Davison hopes to have a big game for the Raiders, as he comes into this game averaging 23.8 points per game and is shooting over 80% from the free-throw line.
Diego Robinson will look to have a big game rebounding the basketball, as he is currently leading the Raiders in rebounds per game at 10.8 rebounds per game while averaging 8.2 points per game. A victory for the Raiders will keep them in second place in the Western Conference. The Raiders have only lost one game at home all season and will look to continue their winning ways at the Gerard R. Ford Fieldhouse.
The men's final home game of the season will be Monday, February 26th against Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Both teams will wrap up regular season Wednesday, February 28th when they travel to Mt. Pleasant to face the Lakers of Mid Michigan Community College.
