Box Score Grand Rapids, MI. -- GRCC used an early first half run to push out to an early lead over visiting Jackson College on Wednesday night (3/1), Eventually securing the home win 81-69 to clinch the 4th seed in the NJCAA District tournament that begins next Tuesday, March 7th.
"We played solid defense," said head coach Luke Bronkema. We played smart. The guys looked like they were all playing with high basketball IQ's on defense. That really led to our offense clicking."
GRCC received strong contributions from it's sophomore leaders on "sophomore night." Sophomore guard,
Arthur Pearson led the Raiders with 26 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, and 4 steals. Sophomore guard,
Jeffrey Drake-Todd added 16 points and six assists and sophomore center, Max Prendergast recorded a double-double on the night, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Former Northview freshman guard
Zachary Pangborn added eight points.
GRCC shot 46 percent from the field and 53 percent from the three-point stripe. Jackson shot 42 percent from the field and 38 percent from three.
"We know we can score," said Pearson. "We know what we can do on offense. We just have to stick to defense and rebounding."
The Raiders will have home court advantage on Tuesday, March 7 for the NJCAA District 9 quarterfinals vs. Mid-Michigan Community College at 7:30 pm.
