Grand Rapids, MI. -- GRCC defeated Kellogg Community College on Wednesday evening (2/22) on the road 53-41.
"Defensive intensity was there," said head coach Dave Glazier. "Offensively, we did a good job of adjusting to a 1-3-1 (zone defense). Out of the gate, we shot the ball well. Flewelling had 18 points and five threes."
"Solid defense led to easy shots on offensive," said Flewelling. "We weren't selfish with the ball and were able to get good shots. We finished at the basket and made our free throws."
Claire Flewelling had a season-high 18 points, which included five three-pointers and 5 steals.
Emily Pendred and
Makayla Beld recorded double-doubles on the night. Pendred finished the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Beld finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
"We defended pretty well," said head coach Dave Glazier. "We pressured well. Flewelling had 5 steals tonight and she continues to defend like we always knew she could. She just had to start to see it and believe it."
Beld and Pendred are tough down low on the glass. They continue to attack the boards game after game and tonight they both combined for 26 rebounds together.
"A little bit of success goes a long way," said Glazier. "We continue to play more loose and not as rigid. We are a good team."
The Raiders next game is Friday, February 24 against the 6th ranked Kalamazoo Valley Cougars at the Ford Fieldhouse at 5:30PM.
