Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich—GRCC's men's basketball team picked up their first win of the 2016-17 season defeating Cornerstone University's Golden Eagles 93-86.
Despite leading by as many as 23 points in the second half, Cornerstone rallied to cut the lead to five points with a minute remaining in the game.
Leading the way for GRCC were sophomores
Arthur Pearson and
Jeffrey Drake-Todd. Pearson—returning after playing at GRCC in the2013-14 season finished the night with 23 points, three steals and two assists.
Drake-Todd—who played the 14-15 season for the Raiders—finished the night with 10 assists, 7 steals and 21 points.
Bryce Elliot came off the bench to finish the night with 18 points adding 2 steals and 1 assist.
Samuel Carigon led the raiders on the boards finishing the night with 9 total while adding 5 points.
Darron Ewing Jr. and
Maxwell Prendergast each recorded 8 rebounds with Ewing adding 12 points and Pendergast adding 5.
The Golden Eagles were led by Jake Brubaker who racked up 30 points and 8 rebounds. Chase Summer's 13 rebounds led his team, but as a team CU won the battle in the paint out rebounding the Raiders 63-45.
Cornerstone shot a miserable 18-32 from the line while also allowing 8 more turnovers than the Raiders.
GRCC's men host Grace Bible College's JV team at the Hunsburger Arena inside the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse tonight at 7:30PM.
