Box Score The Raiders rebounded from their loss at
Hope College JV on Tuesday night (Dec. 8) by commandingly beating
Alma College JV, 71-52 (Dec. 10). Notably, GRCC's forward
Kristen Schubring, the team's second leading scorer at 13.3 points per game, returned from her ankle injury to score 14 points, grab 7 rebounds and 2 steals. During Schubring's absence the Raiders relied heavily upon the trio of
Courtney Zenner 16.4 ppg,
Regan Cross 11.9 ppg and
Deiona Rogers 11.4 ppg. Rogers has also been hampered by injury this season. The Holiday break comes at an opportune time for the Raiders to rest and get healthy for MCCAA-Western conference play beginning in January.
The Alma Scots jumped out to an early four point lead with 8:13 left in the first quarter. From that point GRCC turned up the pressure on the Scots and took the lead for good. The Raiders poured in 31 points off 22 Alma turnovers and led by as many as 28 points with 3:33 left in the game. GRCC 35% and Alma 29% both struggled with shooting from the field. However GRCC went 7/16 (44%) from three point range in the second half, led by Zenner who made 5/9 for the game and 40% for the year.
Four players are averaging in double figures for the Raiders with
Ciara Sundermann 9.9 ppg just falling short of becoming the fifth. The Raiders have scored over 60 points six times this season and have won all six contests. However, when the Raiders score less then 60 points they have lost all four games.
GRCC will play
Schoolcraft (8-0) on Tuesday, December 22 at 1PM in the Ford Fieldhouse. GRCC lost at
Schoolcraft 55-54 back on November 7, 2015.
