Grand Rapids, Mich – The Grand Rapids Community College basketball team host Lansing Community College's Stars tonight with the women's contest starting at 5:30PM and the men's starting at 7:30PM.
GRCC's women will tip off with a 2-10 overall record while 1-4 in conference play sitting in 8
th place in the West. Lansing, currently 7
th in the West, heads to Hunsburger Arena at 3-14 overall and 1-3 in MCCAA West play. Both Grand Rapids and Lansing have picked up their conference win over Ancilla College.
Leading the Raiders offensively thus far in 2015 is
Kristen Schubring (Novi, M) with team highs in points averaging 16.8 with 202 total. Additionally, Schubring leads the Raiders in blocks with .7 per game while recording 10.2 rebounds—the second most for the Raiders.
The Raider's rebound leader,
Sara Karamol (Rockford, MI), is averaging 11.3 per game while adding 12.8 points per game.
Andrea Straw (Rockford, MI) leads the Raiders in assists with 6.7 per game while adding 10.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
GRCC's men start tonight's contest with an overall record of 9-6 and a conference record of 3-2 having won two straight. The Raiders hold third place in the west behind #1 Lake Michigan College at 4-0 and #2 Muskegon Community College at 4-1.
Sophomore
DeMarkus Stuckey (Saginaw, MI) leads his team in scoring with 21.1 points per game but is closely followed by
Cameron Burhannon (Indianapolis, IN) who is averaging 20 points per game since stepping on the court for the Raiders in December. Stuckey leads his team in assists with 85 this season while also adding 19 steals—third most for the Raiders.
Leading the Raiders in rebounds is
Kevin Brower (Rockford, MI) who has recorded 133 on the season averaging 8.9 per game.
Calvin Ward III (Dallas, TX) trails averaging 8.5 per game, Ward is posting other impressive figures including a 15.9 point per game average with 47-of-66 free throws made.
