Raiders pick up a pair of wins in Muskegon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Muskegon, Mich – GRCC's men's and women's basketball teams returned to Grand Rapids with a pair of wins over Muskegon Community College's Jayhawks as the women won 71-64 and then men, 99-63.

GRCC's women's team kept their turnovers to a minimum allowing just 12 last night and edged out the Jayhawks.  GRCC now holds fifth place in the MCCAA West at 5-6 in conference play.

Stephanie Stevens and Sara Karamol went the distance for the Raiders last night playing all 40 minutes.  Stevens led the Raiders in scoring with 25 while adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists and two steals.  Karamol delivered 12 rebounds and 9 points with 3 assists and 1 steal.

Danielle Harrison recorded her 9th double-double of the season with 18 rebounds and 10 points.  Harrison also led the Raiders in steals with 5 in 36 minutes of play.

Kayla Rosinski's 18 point effort was punctuated by her team high 6 assists.

GRCC's women host a struggling Ancilla Charger team at the Hunsburger Arena Friday night at 5:30PM.

The Chargers have lost 10 straight since picking up their only win over Jackson College's Jets on January 4th.  Ancilla now sits at the bottom of the standings with a 1-9 record in the MCCAA while 1-21 overall.

GRCC's men began the contest with a lack-luster first half performance shooting just 7-of-20 from the field making just 1-of-7 three point attempts.  However, the Raiders sank 17-of-19 from the free throw line allowing them to head into the second half down by just one point, 32-33.

Whatever adjustments or commentary GRCC's coaching staff had for the Raiders in the locker room was clearly all that was lacking because GRCC went off in the second half scoring 67 points—37 more than the Jayhawks—for the 99-63 win.

Leading the Raiders were DeMarkus Stuckey and Courtney Hill who each scored 22 points with seven rebounds.

Devin Longoria and Miles Robinson added 14 each and Cameron Burhannon broke into double digit scoring figures with 10 points.

Nate Hollenbeck grabbed a team high 8 rebounds and scored five points with an assist and a steal.

Robinson led the Raiders in assists with 6.

Muskegon was led in scoring by Tyiwan Jones and Marquise Hatter.  Jones Delivered 19 points and 6 rebounds while Hatter added 15 points and 7 rebounds.

The win leaves GRC C tied for third with Ancilla College who they will play host to tomorrow night at 7:30 PM at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.  Both GRCC and Ancilla College hold a 7-4 conference record 3.5 games behind 11-1 Glen Oaks.
