Box Score Battle Creek, Mich – Grand Rapids Community College's women's basketball team falls to 1-8 with a 48-59 loss to Kellogg Community College's Bruins.
GRCC opened the contest with eight missed field goals, but fortunately Kellogg's Bruins were equally cold in the first as each team fought to keep the game within four points in the first half.
The Raiders managed to take a 35-33 lead with 13:48 showing on the clock in the first, but a 13-2 scoring run by the Bruins put them on top again.
The Raiders came within 6 points towards the middle of the second half but couldn't close the gap any further as the Bruins bested the visiting Raiders 59-48. Sophomore
Danielle Harrison led GRCC with a 16 point 13 rebound performance scoring 10 in the second half.
Stephanie Stevens added 14 points to the Raiders total while grabbing 6 rebounds.
Kayla Rosinski led GRCC in assists with 6 while adding six points.
As a team GRCC shot just 27% from the field and were outscored in the paint 36-14.
Head Coach Tracy Little was disappointed by the loss, but optimistic about her team.
"Our Raiders played hard tonight, but ultimately fell short of really turning the corner and playing a solid 40 minutes. We show glimpses of greatness followed by, a times, a lull in the action. However, I believe in these young women, and they believe in each other. The best is yet to come."
GRCC's women's basketball team hosts Glen Oaks on Friday January 10
th at 5:30PM. Glen Oaks Vikings are 8-4 overall and 0-2 in MCCAA play in 2014.
