Box Score 2 Lansing, Mich – Grand Rapids Community College basketball teams split at Lansing last night as the women's squad left with a 72-59 win and the men fell short 85-88 against the Stars.
GRCC's women improve to 3-3 in conference with a 4-10 overall record. The Lady Raiders have now won three straight.
GRCC's men are 4-2 in conference play and 10-5 overall after the loss now two games out of first behind Kalamazoo Valley and Glen Oaks.
Leading the way for the women were
Danielle Harrison and
Stephanie Stevens who combined for 44 points as Harrison earned 23 and Stevens 21. Harrison added 12 rebounds earning her fourth double-double of the season. Stevens 21 points were accompanied by a team-high 7 assists plus 3 steals and 3 rebounds.
Kayla Rosinski and
Alyssa VandenBerge each added 9 points to the Raiders total. VandenBurge also grabbed 8 rebounds while Ronsinski tallied 5 assists.
Lansing was led by standout LaTonya Shade who finished with 30 points, 6 steals, 6 rebounds and three assists. Robin Robinson scored 11 points and Morgan Kelso and Jordan McLeggan combined for 21 rebounds.
GRCC's men were led in scoring by
Courtney Hill who finished the night with 37 points. Hill was 5-of-10 from the arc and 14-of-24 from the field. He added 3 steals and 5 rebounds before the final buzzer.
C.J. Mackey scored 15 points with 15 rebounds shooting 7-of-13 from the field.
DeMarkus Stuckey trailed Hill in scoring finishing with 19 points while leading his team in assists with 6.
The Raiders host Lake Michigan College Friday on their home court in Hunsburger Arena with game starting at 5:30 and 7:30PM.
The #1 Lady Redhawks are on a 8-game win streak and undefeated in conference play while 15-3 overall.
Lake Michigan's men are 3-3 in the West and 11-8 overall.
After Friday's games GRCC will have four days to recover before traveling to Kalamazoo to face Cougar teams who are both ranked second in the MCCAA West on Wednesday January 29
th.
