Raiders fall to Muskegon CC

Grand Rapids, Mich – After a rough night on the court where Grand Rapids Community College's women's basketball team took a 55-82 loss to Muskegon Community College's Jayhawks, the Raiders now find themselves postured at the bottom of the conference standings at 0-3 in league play and 1-10 overall.

Muskegon's Jayhawks improved to 1-3 in the MCCAA's Western Conference while 8-6 overall ending a four game losing streak on GRCC's home court.  Last night's 27 point rout ups the Jayhawks' to sixth in the West three games out of first place.

Leading the way for Muskegon last night were Taylor Brown and Krystal Geers.  Brown led her team in scoring shooting 8-of-17 from the field and 5-of-7 from the line for 22 points.  Brown added a team high seven assists and four steals in 33 minutes of play.

Geers shot 7-of-14 from the field and went 2-of-4 from the line for 17 points and owned the paint adding 15 rebounds in 33 minutes of play.  Geers led the Jayhawks in steals with 9.

The Raiders struggled to maintain possession of the ball allowing 32 turnovers—twice as many as MCC—before the game's end.  GRCC out rebounded the Jayhawks 45-40, but struggled from the field shooting just .382 on the night to Muskegon's .432.

Sara Karamol and Kayla Rosinski led GRCC with 12 points and 6 rebounds each.  Danielle Harrison led the Raiders in rebounds with 7.  Alyssa VandenBerge swatted four shots while adding 8 points and six rebounds.  This was the third game VandenBerge recorded four blocks.

The Raiders' leading scorers this 2013-14 season, Stephanie Stevens and Danielle Harrison, combined for just 8 points and 9 rebounds while playing for 21 and 20 minutes respectively.

The Raiders travel to Plymouth, IN on Saturday January 18th to face Ancilla College's Chargers.  The Chargers are 1-14 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Tip off is scheduled for 1:00PM.
