GRCC cruises past Muskegon

Grand Rapids, Mich – Grand Rapids Community College's men's basketball team delivered a decisive win in front of their home crowd Wednesday night offing Muskegon Community College's Jayhawks 80-56.

Muskegon, now 0-4 in conference play and 7-9 overall, holds last place in the MCCAA West as they prepare to face Kellogg Community College in an effort to break their five-game losing streak,

The win allows the Raiders to maintain their fifth place in the MCCAA West's rankings at 1.5 games out of first place at 2-1 in conference play.  GRCC is now 8-4 overall and showing signs of hope after falling to the MCCAA West's leading team of Glen Oaks Community College 75-81.

With sophomore leading scorer Deontae Hudson out for the night, the Raiders were led in scoring by Courtney Hill and DeMarkus Stuckey with 16 points each in 22 minutes on the floor.  Hill added three rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes while Stuckey tallied two steals, assists and rebounds.

Freshman C.J. Mackey continued to dominate in the post with 13 rebounds but shot just 3-of-8 from the field and 2-of-4 from the line for 9 points.

Cameron Burhannon added 12 points to the scoreboard in 19 minutes of play.  Burhannon also recorded 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 2 assists.

The Raiders hope to maintain their momentum and create a winning streak as they travel to Ancilla College on Saturday for a 3:00PM contest against a tough Charger team.

6-9 Ancilla College holds a 3-1 conference record with wins over Lansing, Lake Michigan and Jackson in 2014. 

The Chargers are now tied with Lansing Community College's Stars for second place in the West both one game behind Glen Oaks for first.
