Grand Rapids, MI—The GRCC Raiders basketball teams are prepping to host local rivals, Muskegon Community College. Both the men and lady Jayhawks will be looking their first conference win of the season.
Though the Muskegon CC ladies team is yet to earn a conference victory, they've compiled a 7-6 record on the season. After dropping 4 straight matches, the team needs to get their season back on track to keep their post season hopes alive.
With a 1-4 record on the road, it will be no easy task.
The Raiders face similar problems. Despite compiling an early season record of 1-9, the team appears to be on the cusp of stringing together some wins. They've dropped a couple of very close matches and earned their victory on the season against powerhouse Delta College.
GRCC's guys squad looks to return to their winning ways after having lost to Glen Oaks last Friday. The guys currently hold a 7-4 record and are 1-1 in conference play. After having qualified for the national tournament for 2 consecutive seasons, the team is hungry to return to Danville.
A victory of Muskegon CC on Wednesday would put them right on track.
The 'Hawks have put together a 7-8 record on the season, but have yet to earn their first conference win. The Raiders will aim to keep it that way, but understand that Muskegon CC is not to be taken lightly.
Though it is well understood that basketball is a team game, a few members of the GRCC men's squad are shining quite brightly this season on an individual level. Notably, Deontae Hudson has potted 16.3 points per game, followed closely by teammate Courtney Hill with 12.3. DeMarkus Stuckey is averaging just over 12 points per game and north of 2 steals per game as well.
Competition begins at the Ford Fieldhouse on Wednesday at 5:30 PM with the women taking the court first. The men follow at 7:30.
