Down but far from out, Kellogg stepped up their game in the second half out scoring GRCC 46-37.
The last minutes of the game seemed poised for a Raider victory as GRCC was up by 1 with 13.1 seconds to play, but Kellogg’s Bruin team was not prepared to go down quietly. With ten seconds on the clock, the Bruins scored a quick two points to go up by one.
Now down by 1, GRCC missed their shot to take the lead forcing GRCC’s
Phillip Hansen put Kellogg’s Christian Covile on the line with just under six second in the game. Up by 1, Covile hit both shots to bump up the Bruins lead to 3.
GRCC’s inbound passed ended up in the hands of Daryl White who hit the buzzer beating three to send the game into overtime at 76-76.
That shot apparently took the life out of the Bruin squad as GRCC outscored Kellogg 17-7 in the overtime period. GRCC went on to win 93-83.
GRCC was led in scoring by Mustert and
Badger with 21 points each. Mustert grabbed 20 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double.
While the comeback win shows with absolute certainty that this Raider team has the personnel to overcome setbacks and win games, GRCC is going to need to step up their play significantly for their next opponent, Glen Oaks.
Glen Oaks’ Vikings visit Grand Rapids this Friday riding a 20-game win streak while ranked 3
rd in NJCAA Division II.
Friday’s contest starts at 7:30PM at GRCC’s Hunsburger Arena inside the Ford Fieldhouse.
