Women's basketball picks up win over Muskegon CC 59-54

Box Score Grand Rapids, MI – GRCC’s women’s basketball team overcame a first half deficit to beat Muskegon Community College 59-54.  The win over Muskegon Community College is the team’s second straight and bumps them to a 5-7 MCCAA record.

GRCC’s Raider squad shot just .214 from the field in the first half.  Eight of GRCC’s 21 points came from the free throw line.  MCC’s Jayhawks struggled to find the hoop in the first too as the team shot 10-of-29 but managed to hold a 23 to 21 lead going into the second half.

Both team’s struggled handling the ball in the first half with 34 total turnovers—16 coming by way of the Raiders.

GRCC’s shooters still struggled from the field in the second, but were able to post some points on the scoreboard.  Kayla Rosinski scored 11 in the second going 4-of-9 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the line.  Danielle Goad scored 11 points of her own to match Rosinski as the second half leader.

Muskegon’s shots continued to fall with greater percentage than GRCC, but the Jayhawks could not get keep the ball turning it over 11 more times in the second half.  GRCC offered just 3 turnovers in the second half.

Danielle Goad and Kayla Rosinski led GRCC in scoring with 15 each . Alyssa VandenBerge led the Raiders in rebounding with 12 adding 7 points.

Muskegon was led by Kassondra Kurnat who finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Next up for the Raiders are the Chargers of Ancilla College.  GRCC visits the 3-18 Chargers on Saturday the 16th of February.  Tip off for that game is scheduled for 1:00PM.
