Raiders sweep Delta's Pioneers

Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich – Both of Grand Rapids Community College's basketball teams delivered wins Wednesday night after facing tough Delta Pioneer teams.

GRCC's women broke a six-game sting of losses with a 52-50 win over a then 7-1 Delta squad on a five-game win streak.  The win bumps the Raiders up one spot in the MCCAA West while Delta rest at second in theEast.

GRCC's ladies managed to hold a moderate lead for most of the contest against Delta and started the second up 26-18.  GRCC held that lead—even increasing it to as much as 11—before Delta started a comeback effort outscoring the Raiders 14-1 to take the lead 50-49 with 25.9 seconds remaining.

Delta sent sophomore Danielle Harrison to the line with 15 seconds on the clock where she dropped in both shots to take the 51-50 lead.  A Delta turnover immediately following that play forced them to foul Sara Karamol with just 6.4 on the clock.

Karamol sank 1-of-2 to put the Raiders up 52-50.  With time expiring Delta drove down the floor but failed to get off a shot before the buzzer sounded.

Leading the Raiders was sophomore Danielle Harrison who delivered a 14 point 26 rebound double-double in thirty-five minutes of play.

Sara Karamol led GRCC in shooting 7-of-12 from the field and 2-of-4 from the line for 16 total.

Sophomore Stephanie Stevens delivered 11 points, six assists and 5, rebounds, four blocks and two steals.

Head Coach Tracy Little was very pleased with her team's effort.

"The girls are getting better every day and this win is a reflection of their hard work.  Danielle Harrison had a huge night, owning 26 boards.  She had recently made adjustments to her free throw process which was key when she knocked in 2-of-2 with 15 seconds to play.  She is a team player, team leader and a great person.  She will do big things in life."

GRCC's women's team travels to St. Clair County Community College to face the 6-2 Skippers on Saturday December 14th at 4:00PM.

GRCC's men downed the Pioneers 78-63 picking up their first win over a JUCO team after falling to both Oakland and Mott Community Colleges early in the season.

Leading the Raiders in scoring against Delta College was Deontae Hudson who finished with 19 points and six rebounds.  Freshman Cameron Burhannon added 17 points and three rebounds. DeMarkus Stuckey delivered 14 points, five assists and two steals.

Willie Duke lead the Raiders in rebounds grabbing eight in just 16 minutes of play.

Now 4-2, GRCC's men hope to continue in that form as they host the Oakland Community College Raiders tonight at 7:30PM.
