Men's basketball faces the Saints tonight

Box Score Grand Rapids, MI—The GRCC men's basketball squad prepares to take the court at home for the first time this season when Aquinas College sends their JV squad across town to GRCC's Hunsburger Arena. The Raiders historically have fared extremely well when squaring off against the Saints under Head Coach TJ Carnegie, having defeated them on 4 consecutive occasions.

Though the Raiders have not gotten off to the start that they'd hoped for, the team is hoping to quickly climb back to the .500 mark. Having lost early season matches to powerhouses Mott Community College and Oakland Community College, the Raiders remain confident that they will be one of the premier teams in the MCCAA this season.

Despite that pair of early season losses, the Raiders have taken away some positive experiences. A team that returns a solid core of 5 sophomores has bolstered their roster with an impressive amount of talent.

After having taken a year off, Sophomore Courtney Hill returns to action with the GRCC Raiders. By way of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Hill has established himself as a fierce competitor and an omnificent offensive threat on the court. After averaging roughly 13 points a game while a member of the Cougars' squad. Courtney, with his explosive style of play, is expected to be one of the most dynamic players on the court this season, regardless of where he travels.

Along with Hill, Raider recruit C.J. Mackey brings with him enormous amounts of potential.

Mackey comes to Grand Rapids from Tarpon Springs, Florida. Mackey, a freshman, has earned so many accolades that they could fill a trophy case. Eager to prove himself at the college level, the big guard is quickly acclimating himself to the fast paced college game, and appears to be poised for a breakout campaign.

Fellow newcomer, Cameron Burhannon  joins the Raiders out of Warren Central HS in Indianapolis, IN. The smooth shooting freshman has high hopes, citing his dream to make the show as motivation to be one of the Raiders' leaders both on and off of the court. The mild mannered Burhannon, is anything but that on the court. With a stroke that is sure to rival that of anyone in the MCCAA, Burhannon gives the Raiders yet another offensive threat.

The Raiders bench shares an equal amount of potential. With a well-rounded roster, they have the opportunity to make their third straight trip the NJCAA's National Tournament in Danville, IL. The road to nationals, in the eyes of this team, begins when they take the court against the Saints in front of their home crowd for the first time this season. Game time is Thursday, November 14 at 7:30 PM.
