Raiders set to host Owens Express

Grand Rapids, Mich – Grand Rapids Community College's women's basketball team hopes to even out at 1-1  tonight as they host the 4-1 #9th ranked Owens Community College Express at 5:30PM tonight in the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.

The Raiders return six sophomores from their 2012 roster including their leading scorer and MCCAA All-Freshman and Western Conference 2nd team award winner, Stephanie Stevens.  Stevens averaged 15.9 points per game for the Raiders while adding 2.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 17 games.

Danielle Harrison, a 2013 All-Western Conference Honorable Mention award winner, returns as well.  Last season Harrison posted an average of 11.5 points and a team high 9.6 rebounds per game.

2013 All-Western Conference 3rd Team award winner Kayla Rosinski returns to the floor for GRCC hoping to produce even better numbers.  Last season Rosinski averaged 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the Raiders.

Alyssa VandenBerge is committed to boosting her 2013 figures for her final season as a Raider.  VandenBerge contributed an average of 6.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for GRCC last season.

Also returning for GRCC are Libby Kwiatkowski and Rachel Smits. Kwaitkowski put up 4.3 points and 4.2 rebounds for GRCC in 2013.  Smits, participating in only seven games during the 2012-2013 season, is expected to be an impact player this season.

GRCC adds seven freshmen to complete this season's roster.

Tonight's matchup will prove challenging for the Raiders.  Owens will arrive at GRCC 4-1 carrying the momentum of a 16 point victory over #10 Monroe College.

Owens is led by sophomores Kamilah Carter, Paige Wright and Eboni Adams.  Carter leads the Express in scoring averaging 18.4 points per game while adding 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists. Adams brings in a 13.6 point per game with 5.2 rebounds.  Wright has averaged 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Though Owens looks tough on paper, Head Coach Tracy Little is confident that a well-rounded team game will be enough to give her Raiders the edge.

Tip off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
