KVCC too much for Lady Raiders

Box Score Kalamazoo, MI –GRCC’s Lady Raiders fell 44-59 to the #14th ranked Cougars Saturday afternoon.

The Raider knew walking in to the contest that they’d have their hands full as KVCC was currently riding a seven game win streak while holding the number one spot in the MCCAA West.  Down by only three points going into the second half, GRCC was prepared to rally for the win but simply couldn’t hang on.

GRCC’s women’s team was led in scoring by Kayla Rosinski who finished the night with 16 points, two steals and one rebound.  Stephanie Stevens neared a double-double on the night with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Nearly every member of the Raider team posted a score—and each contributed on the court in some way—but the Cougars were too tough in the end.  Led by Breanna Birmingham, who finished the night with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 blocks, KVCC needed little help from anyone else on the court to seal up the win.

Fellow Cougars, Khadijah Seawood and Christina Thurber combined for an additional 18 points, 9 rebounds before the final buzzer while Molly Sleeman racked up 7 steals to give the Cougars their 8th straight win of the seaons.

GRCC’s women’s team looks to break their loosing steak as the travel to Kellogg Community College to face a 4-6 Burin team which just lost their conference opener to the NJCAA’s #1 Lake Michigan College.

Tip off is at 5:30PM at Kellogg Community College Wednesday, January 9th, 2013.
