Danville, IL – South Mountain’s second have surge was too much for GRCC’s Raiders as they fell 61-76.

The Raiders started strong in the first half against a tough and physically dominant South Mountain team.

Jared Mysliwiec scored 21 points in the first half going 3-for-8 from behind the arch. Tyler Krim scored the 2nd most 1st half Raider points with 3.  Arik Hesselink, T.J. McCutcheon, Micah Gates and Roy Jackson, Jr. all found the basket in the first half as well, finishing the half with 2 points a piece.

Despite the size of the Cougars, GRCC attacked the boards (outrebounding South Mountain) and played tough defense containing the Cougar’s Mike Craig to a mere 6 points in the first half.

Down by three points, the Raiders began the second half of play in contention for the win.  However, South Mountain came out firing. Mike Craig drained 13 points and grabbed 6 more boards to finish with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.  Ernesto Andrade finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds of his own.

While the Cougars caught fire, GRCC worked to keep it close.  Mysliwiec scored six more to finish with 27, and Tyler Krim’s second half included 11 points with 9 coming from three-point land.

Micah Gates found some success in the paint in the second half adding 8 to the Raiders total number, but in the end it wasn’t enough as South Mountain pulled away for the win on a 15-2 scoring streak.  The Raiders didn't score the final 4:34 of the ball game and missed their final 9 field goal attempts.

The loss leaves GRCC in the loser’s bracket where they will take on 18th ranked Bismark State College Thursday at 1:00 CST.  Fan can tune into that game live on NJCAA TV.
