Raiders win streak snapped at 5

Box Score Muskegon, MI--The men's basketball squad saw their 5 game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening when they fell to Muskegon Community College 73-80. The Raiders are now 15-8 on the season, with a 10-3 record in conference play.

Micah Gates had a huge game for the Raiders with 21 rebounds and a team leading 19 points. Alex Lyle put up 15 points and teammate T.J. McCutcheon added 11 more. Despite some strong play, the Raiders couldn't keep up with Muskegon.

Cody Kleeves provided the Jayhawks with some much needed offense. With his squad up 34-32 Kleeves nailed a 3 point buzzer beater to end the first half. He totaled 18 points, all in the first half.  Teammate Isiah Law knocked in a game high 23, including 21 in the second half.

The Raiders struggled early in the second half, and at one point were down by as much as 13 points, 53-66 with 7:26 remaining. GRCC got to within 2 points (71-73) with under 2 minutes to go by some solid play from Alex Lyle and Arik Hesselink, but fouls and free throws sealed their fate.

The loss leaves both teams with a win at home and a loss on the road against each other. Despite the loss, GRCC holds a slight edge over Muskegon (19-8, 10-4) in the MCCAA Western Conference standings. Both teams have already qualified for the district tournament which begins in a couple weeks.

GRCC takes the court next when they host Ancilla College. The game starts at 7:30 PM at the Hunsberger Arena.
