Box Score Grand Rapids, MI – GRCC’s women’s basketball team slips to 2-5 following a 41-68 defeat at the hands of the NJCAA’s 12
th ranked Skippers of St. Clair County Community College.
The Raiders, already feeling the effects of player injuries, took to the court with only seven healthy players and couldn’t get in rhythm lacking several key play makers.
GRCC kept the game competitive in the first half—even leading at times—but their five point halftime deficit continued to grow in the second half as they only scored 15 points to the skippers 37 making only 1 of 22 field goal attempts and 13 of 23 free throws in the second.
Alyssa VandenBerge led the Raiders with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks before fouling out.
Libby Kwiatkowski and
Danielle Harrison each scored 9 points playing almost the entire contest. The pair also combined for 16 rebounds with
Harrison recording 11 of the total.
The Raiders will have the weekend to recover and rejuvenate for Monday’s 7:00 matchup against the Saints of Sienna Heights JV team. GRCC is 0-2 on the road, but recorded their first win on neutral ground defeating Wayne County at Owens Community College.
A win on Monday could provide the gritty squad the impetus needed to get back on the right track.
With just over a month before their MCCAA West conference opener against KVCC on January 5th, 2013, the Raiders will continue to work out the kinks and make a climb from the bottom of the MCCAA West standings.
