Grand Rapids, MI—Both the men and women ended last week on a down note. The women fell at home to Hope College’s JV squad by a margin of 79-52 while the men lost 58-55 on the road against Delta College. The men and women are now 2-2 and 2-3 respectively.
The ladies looked strong when they took the court against Hope on Tuesday, but in the end, the Dutch proved to be too much. The Raiders simply ran out of gas at the end of the game, and Hope ran away with the game.
The men fought a tough battle right up until the end. The 3 point loss puts the Raiders at an even .500 on the season, but they have now dropped both conference games that they’ve played this season.
With 2 games apiece scheduled this week, both squads will have the opportunity to redeem themselves.
The ladies start this week off on the road. The Raiders make a short trip across town where they’ll face off against Davenport’s JV squad. The two teams met earlier this season, ending with a huge win by Davenport. The inexperienced Raiders fell by a score of 46-93, but with a handful of games and some newly developed chemistry, the girls are hoping for a completely different outcome this time around.
The second match of the week takes place on Thursday. St Clair County Community College will make their first trip over to GRCC to play basketball in years. The Skippers have started the 2012-2013 campaign on a strong note, and will undoubtedly bring their A-Game to the Gordon Hunsberger Arena. Through 5 matches on the season, SC4 has gone undefeated.
The men host 2 non-conference schools this week, with the first match coming on Tuesday night. The Raiders are scheduled to take on the Comets of Olivet College to open play for the week, and will look to regain their winning form.
Olivet’s JV team has yet to play a game this season, and will also likely be hungry for their first win.
The second contest of the week comes on Friday evening, when GRCC will do battle with the JV squad from Alma College.
The Scots are no stranger to MCCAA competition, having played 3 members already this season. Although results are not available for their most recent match against Alpena Community College, if recent trends continue, the Raiders will walk away with a win. Alma has fallen to MCCAA competitors Oakland Community College and Lansing Community College by scores of 84-66 and 102-74 respectively.
With 3 home games scheduled for this week, the Fieldhouse will be the place to be. The men have two 7:30 games this week, the first on Tuesday against Olivet and the second on Friday against Alma. The women host St Clair County CC at 5:30 on Thursday. With so many chances to get out and support your Raiders, we’re expecting the Fieldhouse to be jam packed with the Raider faithful.
