Grand Rapids, MI – GRCC’s women’s basketball team looks to even out their overall record against Lake Michigan College following two consecutive losses to Lansing and Jackson Community College.
The Raiders are 3-4 in January after losing a few players following the conclusion of the fall semester. Despite the loss in personnel, the Raiders have had several players step up to fill the voids left by now absent teammates.
Destiney Robinson and
Janele Johnson-Ellis lead the Raiders in scoring as both average 15.5 points per game in January.
Robinsons shot is a bit more consistent at 51% to
Johnson-Ellis’ 39%, but
Johnson-Ellis is the outright scoring leader for the Raiders with 287 points on the season.
Both
Hailey Majewski and
Caitlyn Patterson are both averaging just over 10 points per game in conference for the Raiders while the rest of the team is contributing about 20 points combined—enough to keep them competitive against any opponent.
At 8-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play, the Raiders are not in the midst of a breakout season, but they are hardly down for the count. Expect the Raiders to continue to find their way for the remainder of the 2011-2012 season starting with Lake Michigan College tomorrow night.
LMC’s Breauna Rivoli-Johnson, a 5-7 freshman forward, is averaging 26 points per game this season. If the Raiders find a way to contain her, then they will have an excellent shot at walking off the court at Hunsburger Arena with a win in front of their home crowd.
The women’s game kicks off at 5:30PM with the men’s game to follow at 7:30 PM.
