Grand Rapids, MI-- The Raiders fought a tough one tonight, and came up just short in overtime. After an extrmely physical game, Glen Oaks walked away with an 84-81 victory and ended the Raiders 5 game win streak. The loss was the first in conference play for the Raiders.
Both teams came out of the gates with a lot of physical play. In the first half the teams combined for 17 fouls.
Leading the Raiders in the first half were
Alex Lyle with 11 points and
Arik Hesselink with 6. Jake Bower came off the bench to score 11 points for the Vikings and teammate Alandis Milligan added 8 more. The Raiders held conference scoring leader Karvel Anderson to only 2 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Raiders were down 28-32 at half. Glen Oaks came out hard in the second half, and at one point were up by 12 points.
Micah Gates and
Jimmy Carroll, Jr. were clutch for the Raiders hitting key baskets. The guys fought back to tie the game at 66 apiece before going ahead on a Jimmy Carroll Jr three. With roughly 10 seconds left it looked like the Raiders had all but won the game.
After a quiet first half Karvel Anderson nailed a 3 with 6 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Anderson exploded in OT and scored a three to put the team up by 3, and added another jump shot to put the Vikings up by 5.
The Raiders put forth a strong effort, but couldn't quite keep up with the Vikings. The guys are now 10-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The loss marked only their second home court loss of the season.
