Raiders set to host Glen Oaks

Grand Rapids, MI-- The Raiders basketball teams host the Glen Oaks CC Vikings tonight. The GRCC ladies squad will look to regain their winning form against a struggling Vikings squad, while the men hope to continue their strong play as of late. The women take the court first at 5:30 and the men follow at 7:30.

The Vikings women's team has struggled up to this point in the season and has posted a 2-12 overall record. The team has earned both of its victories against Olivet COllege, a non conference team. The 2011-12 season has seen the Vikings score an uncharacteristically low number of points per game, averaging only 48 points per game. Freshman Julia Wiesemann has led the team, posting an average of 11.5 points per game.

GRCC has experienced ups and downs this season. The team is at an even .500 this season with 6 wins and 6 losses. Janele Johnson-Ellis and Destiney Robinson have provided a good deal of offensive power and leadership for the team, and more of the same will be expected of them.

The Raiders are coming off of a 77-49 win against Kellogg CC and will count on the momentum to carry over into tonights game.

Glen Oaks mens squad has gotten off to a decent start. The team is currently 9-8 overall with a 3-1 in conference record. The Vikings have been solid while playing on the road this season with a 7-3 away record, and they should prove to be a tough match for GRCC. Sophomore Karvel Anderson has been a huge asset to the Vikings, and has far and away led the offensive charge for the team, earning an average of over 22 points per game.

After winning 3 straight games the Raiders are looking confident under new coach TJ Carnegie. The guys have meshed well in recent history, and will hope for more of the same. The Raiders have 5 players averaging over 10 points per game, with Alex Lyle leading the pack with over 23.

The games take place tonight at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse in the Gordon Hunsberger Arena. Come out tonight and support your Raiders!
