University Center, MI—The Raiders looked like a different team this weekend, and grabbed a pair of victories at the Lynn Conway Memorial Tournament. GRCC beat Cuyahoga CC by a score of 68-48 and defeated Delta 54-43.
Heading into the tournament the Raiders had a 3-4 record, and had experienced some early season struggles. The girls banded together and dominated the struggling Cuyahoga CC Challengers team. Janele Johnson-Ellis continued her solid play and posted a team leading 18 points. Caitlyn Patterson was close behind with 15 points of her own. Danielle Williams scored 15 points to lead the Challengers.
With a boost in confidence and a record of .500 the Raiders hit the court against hosting Delta College. The Raiders jumped out to a quick lead, and held on to it for the victory. GRCC led by a score of 26-17 heading into halftime and outlasted the Pioneers to seal the victory. Johnson-Ellis led the team again with a total of 20 points.
GRCC heads to Benton Harbor next to take on Lake Michigan CC. With a winning record and a great deal of confidence the Raiders will look to extend their winning streak to 3 games.
