Toledo, OH—GRCC entered the Owens Community College Tip-Off Challenge with some early season confidence. After performing well in the preseason and earning a decisive win against Mott Community College in their home opener they struggled to find their form In the opening round of the tournament.
The Raiders turned the ball over 32 times and shot a dismal 21% from the floor. “We have to be more disciplined on the offense and defense” said Coach Eric Taylor. They dropped the match to Hillborough College by a score of 39-78
The Raiders were led by Janele Johnson-Ellis who finished with 15 points.
Coach Taylor delivered some inspiring words and the girls regrouped to put on a show in front of those in attendance. GRCC dominated all areas of the court and breezed by Mid Michigan Community College by a score of 88-58.
“We just have to continue to get better as a team. We have to find our focus. Overall, the tournament was a good experience for us. We grew as a team “said Taylor.
The Raiders, now with a 2-1 overall record, hope to build on their solid start. They take the road again this Wednesday to face powerhouse Schoolcraft who are currently ranked #16.
