MCC hangs on in OT to edge out GRCC

MCC hung on to win despite an inspiring run led by the Raiders' Quinntrai Lampkins in the 2nd half. After trailing by as many 13 (60-47), Lampkins scored 9 straight points putting his team down just 4 (60-56) with 10:25 to go. The Jayhawks lead 70-66, but a Raider bucket with under a minute to go, cut the deficit to 2. On the following possession, MCC's Weatherspoon turned the ball over and with 44.6 ticks to go, the Raiders had the ball back. After a timeout with 38 seconds to go, the Raiders put the ball in the hands of freshman guard D’Marius Houston who drove to the hole, made the hoop and drew the foul. His free throw put his team up for just the 2nd time of the game, with their only other lead being at 25-24 with 8:14 left in the 1st half. On the ensuing Jayhawk possession, MCC's Stimage threw the ball out of bounds and that gave the ball back to the Raiders with 11.9 on the clock. A quick foul put Jimmy Carroll at the line to try and make it a 3 point game. He only could make 1 of 2 and it gave MCC a chance to win or tie the game. With the Raiders having a foul to give, they tried to foul MCC after they crossed midcourt, but didn't get the call. Instead Luvene found Law for the game tying shot. It dropped and OT it was. MCC controlled the extra period and the defending Region Champs added loss #3 to their conference record.
