Apr. 28, 2025, PLYMOUTH, IN – The Grand Rapids Community College men's golf team delivered a commanding performance at the MCCAA Championship on Monday, securing its 12th title in program history at Swan Lake Resort in Indiana. The Raiders separated themselves early and never looked back, finishing with a 36-hole total of 598 (301-297) to win by a staggering 29 strokes over runner-up Marian-Ancilla College.
The two-day event featured 67 golfers across 12 teams, but it was GRCC that stole the show with depth, consistency, and a dramatic individual finish.
Freshman Owen Rosendall led the charge for the Raiders, claiming medalist honors in thrilling fashion. Sitting in fourth after an opening-round 75, Rosendall went toe-to-toe with Ancilla's Hunter Zdyb throughout the final round. With the two golfers tied late in the day, Rosendall came through in the clutch—birdieing his second-to-last hole to take a two-stroke lead, then calmly parring the final hole to seal the win.
Rosendall's final-round 70 (-2) gave him a tournament total of 145 (+1), edging Zdyb by two strokes and topping the field in birdies with eight. His poise under pressure and explosive finish earned him not only the individual title but also All-MCCAA honors.
He was joined in the top six by three of his teammates:
Zach Vaandrager (76-73—149, +5), who followed up a medalist performance in GRCC's previous event with a third-place finish and four birdies.
Colin Beckett (74-76—150, +6), the MCCAA's season scoring leader, placed fourth with seven birdies.
Evan Kaiser (76-78—154, +10), landed in sixth with four birdies.
All four earned All-MCCAA honors for their top-6 finishes, helping GRCC also claim the team birdie title with 25 total.
Rounding out the Raiders' lineup was Trevor Hobbs, who finished tied for 29th with rounds of 83 and 84 (167, +23) and contributed two birdies.
The championship adds to a strong season for the Raiders, who earlier had five players named All-Conference: Rosendall, Kaiser, Dario Bonazzi, Vaandrager, and Parker Williamson. Additionally, Rosendall, Bonazzi, Vaandrager, and Williamson were all selected to the Western Conference All-Freshman Team, showcasing the squad's promising future.
Next up for GRCC is the Region XII Championship on May 5-6 at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, where the Raiders will aim to build on their momentum and contend for a berth in the National Championship.
