Box Score 3 Cross Country Results
Oct. 12, 2024, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College men's soccer team earned it's fifth shutout of the season, defeating Terra State Community College 4-0 in Ohio. Meanwhile, back in Muskegon, Michigan, 14 runners set personal records at the Jayhawk Invitational.

The Raiders (7-4-2) blanked Terra State for the second straight year and goal keeper Brett Miller earned his fourth shut out of the season.
Freshman defender Jamie Bautista scored his first career goal in the 25th minute to put the Raiders up 1-0. Elijah Maas and Cristian Diaz picked up the assists on the goal.
Eight minutes later a header by Jordan Marquez, his third goal of the season, gave the visitors a 2-0 lead. Chase Laarman was credited with the assist, his first of the season, and fifth of his career.
Andy Mendez-Reyes scored the Raiders third goal of the game in the 50th minute. It was the second straight game he had a goal. Maas picked up his team leading 10th assist on the score.
Reed Kaman knocked in his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute to finish off the scoring.
The Raiders next game will be against Cornerstone University JV on Oct. 15 at 2pm.
Cross Country Recap
Fourteen of the teams 18 total runners set personal records in the Jayhawk Invitational, including seven athletes who shaved over a minute off their previous collegiate records.
In the women's race, sophomore Anna Tubbergen led the way for the No. 4 ranked Raiders with a personal best 19:16, finishing in 27th out of 156 runners.
Despite missing one of its top runners, Gloria Gatson, GRCC still managed to third among all the two-year schools that competed. Hillsdale, Hope and Calvin finished one, two and three overall in the meet.
Freshman Chloe Rooks had the best improvement of all Raiders. Her time of 24:08 was over two minutes better than her previous PR on Sept. 13. Emily Adamy's time of 23:22 was 1:22 better than her previous PR. The sophomore from Peru is the only runner on the team to improve her time in every single race this year.
GRCC's 15th ranked men's team finished fourth against all two-year schools and nine of it's 11 runners set personal records.
Sophomore Joseph VanderKooi led the Raiders with a time of 26:20. Isaac Skinner was second on the team with a time of 27:03.
Five Raiders improved their times by over a minute, including Haegan Land who improved by 2:16. Land is also the only Raider to improve his time in every single race this year.
With the regular season coming to a close, the Raiders now set their eyes on a regional championship. Regionals will take place Oct. 25 in Goodells, Mich.
