Oct. 4, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mohamed Tamour's hat trick lifted the No. 12 ranked Grand Rapids Community College men's soccer team to a tough 4-3 win over Jackson College on Wednesday.
Meanwhile the men's golf team dominated the field of seven colleges at the Glen Oaks Invitational and the women's soccer team fell just short, 4-3 in its match against Jackson College.
Tamour opened up the scoring at the 16-minute mark in the men's soccer match. The 1-0 lead would hold for the next 42 minutes before Jackson's Emmanuel Ndjoli tied it up.
A penalty goal by Elijah Maas was quickly followed up by a penalty goal by Jackson.
Tamour scored the next two goals and it would prove to be enough to help the Raiders improve to 10-1-1 overall and stay in first in the conference with a 6-0-1 record.
In the women's match, Jackson (10-5-1, 7-4-1) jumped out to 3-0 lead before GRCC (6-8, 4-8) made a late run. Samantha Hunting finally put the Raiders on the board at the 64-minute mark. After a Jackson goal made it 4-1, Alex Ellsworth and Hunting would score to make it a 4-3 match, but GRCC wouldn't score the rest of the way.
The men's golf team sent its entire 10-man squad to the Glen Oaks Fall Invitational, and was able to form two teams to finish in first (303 strokes) and third place (309 strokes). The Raiders have now won four of its past five tournaments.
Sophomore Ty Marchlewski finished with a 72 to earn himself medalist honors for the second time this season.
Freshman Zach Bush fired a 73 to finish second overall in the field of 40, while sophomores Drew Harrington and Jayson Bultman shot a 76 to finish tied for third place.
Hunter Schuiling, 77; Evan Kaiser, 78; Brady Doyle, 80; C.J. Bushey, 80; Zach Basiaga, 84; and McCoy DenHartigh, 87 rounded out the GRCC golfers.
The women's soccer team resumes conference play Oct. 7 at St. Clair County CC. The men's team travels to Schoolcraft on Oct. 11 to take on the No. 7 ranked Ocelots. The golf team doesn't play until Oct. 16 at the Taylor Invitational.
