Oct. 27, 2023, BYRON CENTER, Mich. – Anna Tubbergen, Dan Kehoe and Elicia Land all medal, helping the Grand Rapids Community College cross country teams to successful outings at the Region XII/MCCAA Championships on Friday.

The softball team also fared well, sweeping Grace Christian University in its final games of the fall season.

The men's cross country team was the first to compete on the 8k course at Douglas Walker Park, with Kehoe leading the Raiders to a fourth place finish out of 15 teams. 

Kehoe paced the Raiders with a time of 27:45, finishing in 14th place of all Division II Region XII runners. 

Freshmen Joseph VanderKooi and Austin Winkle finished 21st and 22nd with times of 28:28 and 28:34.

Anthony Lawlor, 29:38; Quinton Dixon, 31:30; Issac De Leon, 35:36; and Nicholas Webb, 40:00, rounded out the GRCC runners.

Tubbergen and Land led the women's team in the 5k event, to a sixth place finish of 11 total teams in Division II regional competition. 

Tubbergen finished fourth overall and Land 12th with times of 19:56 and 21:03.

Newcomers from the women's soccer team had great outings as well.  Claira DeYoung ran a 24:03, Amelia Hancock a 24:11 and Kendyl Bjorkman, 28:34.

Emily Adamy, 24:54; and Lillie Burns, 29:42, rounded out the GRCC runners.

The softball team racked up 23 runs and 27 hits in a sweep over Grace Christian University.

In game one, the Raiders jumped out to a 7-0 lead after just a half inning and cruised to a 10-2 win.  In the later game, GRCC led 9-0 and run-ruled the Tigers 13-2 in five innings. 

Brynn McArthur, Macey Springer and Alyssa Wierenga all had home runs in the double header.  Maddie Miller led the team with five hits on the day.
