Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The 4th ranked Raiders cruised to their 5th win in a row and 34th win in conference play after a convincing 3-0 sweep of Jackson College in their first home match of the season on Thursday night.
The Raiders, who played their first 11 matches on the road this season, took care of business in less than an hour, with an impressive 25-14, 25-4, 25-13 win over the Jets. It was the Raiders 15th straight win over Jackson in coach Chip Will's era, improving the Raiders to 22-1 over that time span.
In a match in the which the starters saw limited action, many other Raiders stepped up their game play and set season highs for themselves.
Lindsey Glaz (Walker, MI, Kenowa Hills '17) (match/season high 9 digs) and high school teammate,
Megan DeGlopper (Walker, MI, Kenowa Hills '17) (season high 8 digs) shined in the match in which their former high school team came out to support. DeGlopper, who was the Raiders libero for the final two sets, and Glaz also had 0 reception errors in 9 attempts. In fact, the Raiders as a team finished with 0 reception errors for the second straight match.
Ally German (Fruitport, MI, Fruitport '17) led another very balanced scoring match that saw nine different Raiders with at least one kill with 7 kills. The freshman middle hit a team best .600 and added 3 blocks.
Kendra DeJonge (Rockford, MI, Rockford '17),
Kayla Salyer (Coopersville, MI, Coopersville '17) and
Hannah Stearns (Jenison, MI, Jenison '16) each added 6 kills and combined for 8 blocks.
Haley Peters (Greenville, MI, Greenville '17) hit a solid .571 with 4 kills on 7 attempts.
Setters,
Lauren Helsen (Coopersville, MI, Coopersville '16) and
Autumn Severn (New Lothrup, MI, New Lothrup '17) had 3 aces each and combined for 28 assists.
As a team the Raiders had 37 kills vs. just 6 errors for a .337 hitting percentage. The Jets, conversely, had just 13 kills against 19 errors, for a -.066 hitting percentage.
The Raiders return home tomorrow and Thursday against Lansing Community College (4-5, 5th in the league) and then Kalamazoo Valley CC (3-5, 6th in the league) with both matches starting at 6:30 PM.
