Volleyball finishes 16-0 in conference play winning the Western Conference Championship

Box Score Jackson, MICH – GRCC's #3 nationally ranked volleyball team closed their regular season with a 3-0 win over Jackson College earning the MCCAA Western Conference Championship while maintaining a perfect 16-0 conference record in 2017 while 23-1 overall.  For GRCC's sophomores, the win marks their 32nd straight conference win, leaving them undefeated in conference play as Raiders.

Kendra DeJonge led the team with 10 kills to lead the team offensively while Ally German trailed with 7.  Peyton Helsen recorded a game high 16 digs.  Kayla Salyer's 5 blocks and three aces were the team's high in those categories.

This Saturday GRCC hosts the MCCAA State Championship where the best two teams from the East and West will square off for state-wide bragging rights.

GRCC's Raiders will take on the MCCAA East's #2 Oakland Community College Raiders at 12PM while MCCAA East #1 Mott Bears face the West's #2 and #19 nationally ranked Muskegon Community College.  The winners of each contest will face one another at 2:30PM for the State Title.

Mott and Oakland Community Colleges each finished the regular season at 11-1 having split with one another in regular season play to share the MCCAA East Title.

The Bears and Jayhawks faced each other on October 22nd with Muskegon getting the best of the Bears in five sets.

Regardless of the outcome of the MCCAA Tournament, the best of MCCAA are preparing for the NJCAA District E and F tournaments with high hopes of earning a National Tournament berth.

District play commences on November 2nd at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI.

While no district play can ever be considered a breeze, District F, where GRCC will compete, has shaped up to be an exceptionally exciting bracket as it presently holds both GRCC's #3 Raiders and the #1 Express of Owens Community College.  More so, #19 Muskegon Community College, who has faced more than 10 nationally ranked teams this season, will also be vying for a national championship berth through that bracket.

Whichever team advances out of District F will be a true contender for the 2017 Division II National Title.
