Benton Harbor, Mich. -- For the first time in the history of the program the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders finish the conference season with a perfect 16-0 record after a 25-16, 17-25, 25-15, 25-13 win over Lake Michigan College last night. The win also marks the fourth time the Raiders finish conference play with an unbeaten record. Their first unbeaten season was in 2008 when they finished 30-8 overall and 14-0 in the conference. The other two seasons were in 2012 when they won the national championship with a 39-1/14-0 record and also in 2014, finishing 27-6 and 14-0 in the conference.Â

    Sophomore Outside Hitter,
Lauren Wieber (Grand Rapids, MI, Kenowa Hills '15), was an offensive juggernaut last night, putting up one of the best offensive performances in Raider history. She finished the match with a career best .679 hitting percentage with 19 kills and zero errors! The 19 kills was her third highest of the season while the zero errors was just the second match that she achieved that feat. She had 12 of her 19 kills in the middle two sets, including her 300th of the season in the third set. Currently she has 305 kills on the season, averaging a team best 3.18 per set.
    The Raiders, whom never trailed in the opening set, cruised to a 25-16 victory. Freshman Outside Hitter,
Olivia Reams (Ada, MI, Forest Hills Eastern '16), finished with four kills in the set, along with Wieber. Reams had nine kills in the match which tied her second best of the season. On the season, Reams now has an even 100 kills!
    The Redhawks nearly controlled the entire second set despite six kills from Wieber. Reams' kill tied it up at 11, but the Raiders couldn't get any closer, as the Redhawks would finish the set on a 14-6 run and win 25-17.
    The third and fourth sets were dominated by the conference champions as they racked up 23 kills and hit over .400 to win 25-15 and 25-13. The Raiders got contributions from everyone on the night, including
Samantha Forner (Allendale, MI, Allendale '16) and
Che'Anne Hicks (Flint, MI, Carman-Ainsworth '16) who each got a kill for our final two points of the match. Â

Rylee Storms (Grand Rapids, MI, Northview '15), finished with 6 kills and 3 blocks on the night, giving her 298 kills for the season and 63 blocks. Freshman Middle,
Hannah Sterns (Jenison, MI, Jenison '16), continued her great efficiency with 4 kills on 7 attempts. She also added a team best 6 blocks, giving her 59 on the season.Â
Janie Bunge (Ottawa Lake, MI, Whiteford '15), who is nearing the 500 mark for the season, finished with a team best 16 digs while
Lauren Helsen (Coopersville, MI, Coopersville '16) finished with 10 digs and a career best 5 aces.
    Yesterday's match concluded the regular season for both teams. The Raiders will get a weeks rest before the Region XII - District E Volleyball Tournament next weekend in Muskegon, Michigan. The #1 seeded Raiders will begin their play against the #4 seed from the Eastern Conference, Mott Community College at 6:00 PM on Friday, November 4th. For complete schedule and results of the tournament please visit the
