Toledo, OH – In the Raiders third game of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament they squared off against a physical 3
rd seeded Iowa Lakes team. The Raiders battled and won a set after dropping the first two sets to the Lakers, but in the end, the Lakers were too much for the Raiders defeating them in four sets, 20-25, 21-25, 27-25 and 20-25.
“We’ve lost a couple tough games to the second and third ranked teams in the country. The girls have been battling for each point, and I’m proud of them for that,” said Coach Chip Will.
Despite having a team of only seven players, Iowa Lakes was a physically dominant team who managed to shut down Raider hitters
Darling and
Czehowski limiting them to a combined nine kills.
Molly Maynard and
Hannah Geelhoed led the Raiders in kills with 22.
The Raiders relied heavily on their defense to contain the Lakers attack. Sophomores
Alexis Rutter and
Amanda Fleener helped keep the Raiders alive in the contest digging up what seemed to be impossible kill attempts.
The loss pairs the Raiders up against Metropolitan Community College at Longview Saturday at 12:00 PM for a potential 7
th place in NJCAA Division II.
