Raiders Fall to No. 1 Kellogg in Region XII Tournament, Face Elimination Game Friday

MAY 14, 2026, SUMMIT TWP, MI – The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team saw its 17-game winning streak come to an end Thursday afternoon, falling to top-ranked Kellogg Community College 15-7 in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament at Jackson College.

GRCC dropped to 30-13 on the season, while the Bruins improved to 46-6 and extended their own winning streak to 19 games.

The Raiders entered Thursday's matchup fresh off a dramatic 7-5 comeback victory over Henry Ford College on Wednesday, after advancing to the Region XII Final Five by sweeping Mid Michigan College in the opening round series.

GRCC struck first against the nation's No. 1-ranked team when Peter Heintz launched a solo home run in the second inning, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The homer was Heintz's 12th of the season and his second in as many days.

Kellogg answered with two runs to take the lead before Michael Hurlbutt tied the game in the fourth inning with an RBI single.

The Bruins later built a 5-2 advantage before A.J. Speigl delivered another solo homer for GRCC in the sixth inning — his third home run of his freshman campaign — trimming the deficit to 5-3.
Kellogg appeared to take control with five runs in the seventh inning to stretch the lead to 10-3, but the Raiders mounted another rally in the eighth.

Jack Lockwood opened the inning with a solo homer, his fourth of the season, before four consecutive singles helped GRCC cut into the deficit. Andrew Conrad later added an RBI single to make it 10-7 and force a Kellogg pitching change.

The Bruins escaped further damage by recording the final two outs of the inning, despite the Raiders scoring four runs on six hits in the frame.

Kellogg responded immediately with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game via run rule.

Defensively, six GRCC errors proved costly. Only six of Kellogg's first 10 runs were earned, while all seven Raider runs were earned.

GRCC finished with 12 hits offensively, with five different Raiders recording two-hit performances.

The Raiders will now face Cuyahoga Community College in an elimination game Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Jackson College.
