Mar. 4, 2026, CLERMONT, FL. – The Grand Rapids Community College softball team wrapped up two more days at The Spring Games with a split on both March 3 and March 4, moving to 7-3 overall with six contests remaining on its Spring Break trip.
March 3 – Game 1: GRCC 11, Marian University (WI) 0 (5 innings)
The Raiders opened the day with a dominant five-inning shutout over Marian University, out-hitting the Sabres 10-4 while playing error-free defense.
Five of GRCC's 10 hits went for extra bases as the offense set the tone early and never let up. Sophomore Grace Salley led the way with a team-high three hits and three RBI.
Lilly Klop earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season, striking out four and walking none in a steady performance inside the circle.
March 3 – Game 2: Wartburg College 10, GRCC 8
In the nightcap, the Raiders battled back twice but fell just short against Wartburg College.
GRCC erased an early 4-0 deficit to take a 6-4 lead and later went in front 8-5. However, Wartburg scored three runs in the fifth to tie the game before pushing across the go-ahead run in the sixth.
Despite out-hitting Wartburg 9-5, the Raiders committed a season-high five errors, leading to six unearned runs.
Freshman Ella Showers provided a big swing with a three-run home run — her second of the season. Sophomore Libby VanFleet also delivered a home run — the first of her career at GRCC. Tia Schone turned in a strong outing in no decision, allowing just one earned run over five innings with four strikeouts.
March 4 – Game 1: Iowa Lakes Community College 11, GRCC 2 (5 innings)
Facing their toughest opponent of the trip thus far, the Raiders dropped a five-inning contest to Iowa Lakes Community College.
GRCC was limited to three hits — coming from Natalee Beck, Ella Showers (double), and Kalani Stowe — while Iowa Lakes collected 12 hits in the win.
March 4 – Game 2: GRCC 23, Daytona Beach Christian University 0 (5 innings)
The Raiders responded in emphatic fashion in the finale, overpowering Daytona Beach Christian University with a 23-0 five-inning victory.
GRCC pounded out 16 hits, with every player in the starting lineup recording at least one hit.
Freshman Megan Lillie had a breakout performance, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and seven RBI. Fellow freshman Abbie Critchett finished 3-for-4 with a triple and six RBI.
Lillie was equally dominant in the circle, earning the win while flirting with perfection. She allowed just one hit — the only base runner she faced — and struck out five.
The Raiders return to action March 5 in Clermont with an 11 a.m. rematch against Iowa Lakes Community College, followed by a 2:30 p.m. matchup against Concordia University Wisconsin.
