Feb. 4, 2026, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College opened the second half of the conference season in strong fashion Wednesday night, sweeping Kellogg Community College at home. Both the GRCC women's and men's teams also completed season sweeps of the Bruins, winning both games in the two-game conference series.
Women's Basketball
The Raider women pulled away in the second half for an 83-60 victory to remain in second place in the conference. GRCC improved to 17-6 overall and 6-1 in league play, while Kellogg fell to 4-17 (0-7).
The first half was tightly contested, featuring seven ties and five lead changes. Kellogg led 15-13 after the first quarter before the Raiders closed the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 32-24 lead into halftime.
GRCC's offense exploded after the break, outscoring Kellogg 51-36 in the second half. The Raiders leaned into their defensive identity, forcing 43 turnovers — the 19th game this season they have forced 20 or more turnovers.
Sophomore Averi Peot led the Raiders for the second straight game with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added nine rebounds. Alison Rockburn recorded career highs across the board with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Harmonie Belton chipped in 13 points, a career-high nine rebounds, and tied her career high with eight steals.
Emma Picarazzi scored a career-high 13 points and added five rebounds, while Lydia Schilthroat posted career highs with 12 points and five assists.
Men's Basketball
The GRCC men followed with a 94-81 win to stay tied for first place in the conference. The Raiders improved to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in league play, while Kellogg dropped to 15-7 (4-4).
Kellogg jumped out to a 7-0 lead and led by as many as 11 points before GRCC battled back to trail just 37-36 at halftime. After four ties in the second half, Tyran Thomas put the Raiders ahead for good with a pair of free throws with 15:23 remaining. GRCC would go on to build a lead as large as 18.
Matt Richards finished one point shy of his career high, scoring 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting while grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. Thomas added 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Zeek Jackson contributed 13 points, a game-high seven assists, a game-high four steals, and four rebounds.
Nate Keil scored 14 points, including 10 from the free-throw line, along with five rebounds and four assists. Jared Demoff added 11 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high five blocks.
Both teams return home Friday night for the annual Hunger Games doubleheader against Lake Michigan College, a team the Raiders split with earlier this week in Benton Harbor. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to save on admission. Each donated item earns $1 off admission, up to a maximum of $5.
