Feb. 11, 2026, DOWAGIAC, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College split its conference doubleheader Wednesday night at Southwestern Michigan College, with the Raider men earning a decisive victory to remain in first place while the women fell but still secured a postseason milestone.
The Raider women dropped a 66-33 decision to the Roadrunners, falling to 18-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play. SMC improved to 12-10 (6-3) and moved into third place in the standings. Despite the setback, GRCC remains in second place and officially clinched a berth in the regional tournament.
Last week's conference player of the week, Averi Peot, led all scorers with 15 points and added six rebounds and three steals. Harmonie Belton contributed across the stat sheet with six assists, six rebounds, and three steals. The loss came after GRCC defeated SMC 81-55 in their previous meeting in Grand Rapids.
In the nightcap, the Raider men controlled the game early and never relinquished momentum in an 86-67 win to improve to 18-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play, maintaining their hold on first place. Southwestern Michigan fell to 11-13 (4-6).
Nate Keil set the tone immediately, drilling a three-pointer on the game's opening possession to spark a 9-0 GRCC run. The Roadrunners didn't score until more than six minutes into the contest. The Raiders built a lead as large as 27 in the first half before SMC trimmed the deficit to 41-29 at halftime. The hosts cut it to seven early in the second half, but GRCC responded with a decisive 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.
EJ Bowman led all players with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and added nine rebounds and a game-high three steals. Conference Player of the Week Matt Richards recorded his fifth straight double-double with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and a game-high 13 rebounds. Gaden Muxlow chipped in 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers.
Both Raider teams return to conference action Saturday, Feb. 14, when they travel to face Marian University–Ancilla College.
