 – The Grand Rapids Community College cross country teams competed Saturday at the Jayhawk Invitational, hosted by Muskegon Community College at University Park Golf Course, with the 10th-ranked Raider women finishing fifth overall and second among junior college programs.

The women's team finished fifth out of 19 teams with 162 points, just behind host Muskegon Community College, which scored 148 points. Grand Valley State University, an NCAA Division II program, won the women's team competition with 30 points.

The Raiders finished second among the 13 junior college teams competing in a field of 158 runners. GRCC athletes recorded five personal records and two season-best times, highlighting a strong performance as the team prepares for the postseason.

Mackenzie Conner led the Raiders with a ninth-place finish in 19:37, a personal record. Mackenzie Baldrica placed 18th in 20:10, a season best, while Vivian Idziak finished 29th in 20:26, also setting a personal record.

Kailey Mann finished 58th in 21:32, and Leah Williams placed 65th in 21:42, with both recording personal or season-best performances, respectively. Binti Abdi finished 69th in 21:44, followed closely by Suzannah Dipiazza in 70th place in 21:49. Kadie Norman placed 89th in 22:29.

Glorious Yarsiah finished 139th in 25:55, and Carolina Lopez Lopez placed 149th in 27:23. Both runners established personal records.

"A very successful day for the Raiders! We moved toward our goals and the next step to our regional goals (and national goals)!" women's head coach Sharon Becker said. "I am super proud of your athletic performances today, but what makes me even more happy and proud is the many times I witnessed you being good teammates to each other; helping each other out and lifting each other up when you saw someone who needed something. Your 'teammanship' and witnessing you all work together and come together for each other brings me JOY!"

Amber Koole of Aquinas College won the women's individual race in 18:47.

The GRCC men had three runners compete in a field of 186 athletes representing 16 teams. Because the Raiders did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score, they were not included in the team standings. Grand Valley State won the men's team competition with 42 points.

Brady Morrow led GRCC with a 35th-place finish in 27:35, recording a season-best time. Corey Jones finished 81st in 28:50, also a season best, while Jacob Creager placed 142nd in 31:41, establishing a personal record.

Both Raider teams will next compete in the Region XII/MCCAA Championships on October 30, where they will look to secure their places at the NJCAA National Championships.
